Dr. James Rembert

Dr-James-Rembert-Radiologist “For me, fighting cancer is intensely personal.  As a young man, I lost both my brother and my father to this disease.  These losses ultimately led me to a career in oncology where I approach every patient and family remembering what it was like to sit on the other side of the exam room.   As a radiation oncologist, I am dedicated to developing a patient-centered treatment plan to achieve the best possible outcome while respecting quality of life goals.  I’m honored to be a part of the team at DVO where we are partnering with UCSF Physics to provide cutting edge radiotherapy in our community.”

Dr. James Rembert graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with a degree in biochemistry.  He was a research scientist at Massachusetts General Hospital prior to receiving his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where he was inducted into the AOA Honor Society and received the Merck Award for academic excellence.  He completed his residency in radiation oncology at UCSF, where he also served as chief resident.

After residency, Dr. Rembert began practice at Alta Bates Comprehensive Cancer Center in Berkeley, CA.   While at Alta Bates, he helped establish their stereotactic radiosurgery program.  He has served as the Chair of Clinical Services at Alta Bates, and currently is the acting medical director of radiation oncology at ABSMC.   Dr. Rembert has published articles and book chapters on multiple topics in radiation oncology.  While he treats all types of cancers he has a special interest in neuro-oncology, lung, prostate, and gastrointestinal malignancies.  Dr. Rembert was selected by his peers, and recognized in San Francisco magazine, as one of the Bay Area’s “Top Doctors” in 2016 & 2017.
